University of Pennsylvania Alumni Free Speech Alliance

Join other Penn alumni supporting free speech as a member and supporter.

We are alumni of the University of Pennsylvania and want to let the university know that we believe in free speech as foundational principles for our alma mater.

Watch Our Kick-Off

What is the University of Pennsylvania Alumni Free Speech Alliance about? Why was it started? What are we planning to do? How can you get involved?

Watch the recording of the Penn AFSA Kick Off where Alexander McCobin (SAS ‘08) moderates a conversation with Greg Lukianoff, President of the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression, and Professor Jesús Fernández-Villaverde, Howard Marks Presidential Professor of Economics at Penn and co-author of Penn Forward, as well as dozens of alumni, faculty, and students. We answer these questions and more to provide a space for alumni to support other stakeholders advancing free speech at our alma mater.

Penn’s Free Speech Ranking: 2nd to Last

Penn ranked second to last amongst US universities in a survey done by the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression when it comes to its protection of free speech.

Penn Faculty Support Free Speech

A group of faculty at Penn have laid out a new vision based on freedom of speech at Penn, articulated in a constitution to guide the university forward. We are proud to support their vision and do what we can as alumni to help bring it about.

“What makes Penn an incredible institution is its commitment for free speech as a cornerstone of a free society and academic rigor.”

— Alexander McCobin, SAS ‘08
